ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a more than 2,000 year old system of
healing that involves placing hair-fine needles into
specific points on the body. These points are believed
to access the body’s “qi”, or vital
energy, and stimulating them helps the body restore
its natural balance. Where qi is either stuck or weak,
disease may develop or pain might ensue. After insertion,
the needles are gently stimulated to produce a distending
sensation around the point and along the channel to
clear and balance the meridian. |
Acupuncture is effectively used for many
complaints, from the common cold to more complex issues
such as endocrine dysfunction. There are many studies
showing its efficacy in reducing or eliminating pain
and speeding up post-surgical recovery time. It contributes
to the release of endorphins in the body, helping to
create a more relaxed state of mind and reducing the
effects of long-term stress.
At Essential Being Health, we use only sterile, disposable
needles and practice gentle Chinese manipulation of
each needle so that you remain comfortable and relaxed
during your treatment. |
E-STIM
Electro-Stimulation is the application of electrical currents
to certain acupuncture points. It is administered through
probes placed on the acupuncture needles that run a current
through the needles into the acupuncture point. E-stim is
often used in conjunction with acupuncture to reduce pain
or to enhance a treatment. This technique has been proven
to decrease pain, accelerate tissue healing, and significantly
reduce inflammation, edema, and swelling.

CUPPING
Cupping is a method of stimulating acupuncture points
by applying suction using a metal, wooden or glass cup,
creating a partial vacuum. This technique stimulates
the site by increasing blood circulation and assisting
with muscle relaxation. Cupping is used for many conditions,
such as muscle ache, sprain/strain, soft-tissue injuries,
viral infection, or lung congestion. |
| MOXIBUSTION
Moxibustion is a technique that involves burning a
plant called mugwort on acupuncture points. Mugwort
is a warm herb by nature and applying it to specific
acupuncture points can help promote circulation and
warm or nourish the point, thereby increasing its
qi.
Acupuncture and moxibustion are considered complimentary
forms of treatment and are commonly used together.
Moxibustion is used for conditions such as fatigue,
cold limbs, frequent illness, and certain types of
pain.

CHINESE HERBS
Many internal conditions benefit from the use of Chinese
herbs in conjunction with acupuncture. These herbal
remedies are formulated based on your specific diagnosis
and can often significantly speed up healing time.
Singly, Chinese herbs have individual medicinal properties,
but they assume different properties when combined
with other herbs.
|
This is called an herb formula. Each
formula is modified for the specific needs of the
patient during a particular stage of illness. As the
condition changes and improves, the herbal prescription
will be modified until the desired health outcome
is achieved. Compared to many Western pharmaceutical
drugs, Chinese herbs are relatively inexpensive and
safe to use with few, if any, side effects.

MASSAGE THERAPY
Sessions are integrative, combining deep-tissue, Swedish,
myofascial release, and Zen Shiatsu. Each massage
is tailored to the individual needs of your body.
You can choose between a full-body treatment or a
session that specifically targets problem areas. Massage
may be combined with acupuncture treatments for enhanced
relaxation or to help further the healing of musculo-skeletal
injuries. In these cases, the massage will typically
target the problem area, and be given either at the
beginning or the end of the acupuncture treatment.
Prenatal and childbirth massage is also available.
Childbirth massage may be scheduled for home or hospital
births.
